Justin Hackworth is not only the nicest man on the planet, he is also a fantastic photographer. Justin is more than competent with the technical ins and outs of photography. No doubt the man knows his way around a camera. This competence frees him to focus on the more critical component of what makes his photos so breathtaking. Justin captures images of people and emotions. When I look at his engagement/wedding photos, I see images of people in love. I see images of love. When I look at pictures from his 30 Strangers project (collection of mother-daughter portraits) I see images of love, healing, and respect.
Justin recently photographed Stephanie Nielson (of the Nie Nie dialogues) and her family. I got to shoot the behind the scenes video. It was an honor to be in their home and capture just a little of the behind the scenes of the session on video. The scene I witnessed was much different than the horror show most of us imagine when we hear the words “family portrait session." Justin was able to step into their world a little bit and capture the emotion in their home. The results were spectacular.
